Response
The last caravan count we did was back in January 2026. We have initially therefore responded to the questions below based on the Jan 2026 caravan count data:
1 How many permanent residential caravan sites are in your local authority? 30 Gypsy and Traveller sites (with permission).
Of these sites, how many are set up and available for travellers to move to? Most permanent sites are generally fully occupied; some have vacant or unimplemented pitches. There is only 1 Local Authority-controlled site in the borough which is currently fully occupied; all other sites are private. TWBC does not have information on pitches currently available on private sites.
2 How many permanent residential pitches are in your local authority? Approximately 84 pitches (134 caravans total, including statics and tourers) across 30 sites with planning permission based on latest caravan count data (January 2026). Please note, while each site has a lawful Gypsy and Traveller permission, whether all identified pitches on each site are lawful was not verified as part of the January 2026 count.
Of these pitches, how many are available and set up for new traveller tenants? TWBC does not have information on pitches currently available on private sites.
3 How many transit caravan sites are in your local authority? None.
How many are available and set up for travellers to move to? None.
4 How many households are on your waitlist for a suitable pitch on a traveller site? We have one household on the waiting list for a Traveller pitch
5 Did you apply for funding to build traveller pitches as part of the 2016 - 2023 Affordable Homes Programme? No
If so, how much funding did you receive? And how many pitches did you build? N/A
6 Have you applied for funding for new traveller pitches under the Strategic Partnership route of the new Social and Affordable Homes Programme (SAHP) 2026 to 2036? No
